The Chelsea High girls track & field team is off to a great start this season. The squad size is large, the energy is high, and the determination is growing. The team currently consists of 58 girls, 32 who are brand new to the team this year.
“Many of our key members graduated last year, but I am excited to have a lot of freshman and sophomore talent joining us this season. I am hopeful that they will be helpful in contributing to the successes that our returning members have experienced the past few years,” says CHS girls head coach Kim Huffer.
The team opened up its 2011 season with a pair of commanding wins against conference foes Lynn Tech (116-20) and Northeast Tech (115-21). Despite battling some nerves against Lynn Tech last Tuesday, the Lady Red Devils performed strongly, sweeping many of the events. Notable Chelsea performances included:

Shuly Sejour enjoyed a fine meet with a 1st place in 100 Hurdles (19.95), 2nd place in the Long Jump, and 3rd places in the High Jump and 200.
The team carried its success into the second meet against Northeast two days later on Thursday. Many of the team members improved on their performances from the earlier meet against Lynn Tech and seemed more focused in their events. Notable Chelsea performances included:

“We still have some technique work and conditioning to do in order to prepare for the rest of the season, but I am excited to see how far this team can go,” said Huffer.
