Gabriella Hamilton

Of Chelsea

Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend Services of Loving Remembrances and offer their condolences today, Thursday, September 21,  from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Welsh Funeral Home, 718 Broadway, Chelsea for Gabriella Hamilton, 75, who passed away on Monday, September 18.  Family and friends will gather at the Funeral Home on Friday, September 22 at 10 a.m. for a procession to graveside services at Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm St. Everett.

Gabriella passed peacefully surrounded by her children and family after a three-year battle with cancer.  Born in Italy, she immigrated to America when she was eight. She spent the majority of her life as a Chelsea resident, then moved to West Newbury in her later years.

Gabriella attended Williams School in Chelsea where she learned to speak English, became a spirited cheerleader and affectionately earned the name “Meatball” from her teacher as she showed up to school every Monday with meatball sandwiches after her family’s big Italian Sunday dinners.

Gabriella was well known in Chelsea and the surrounding towns as a friendly, hard-working waitress in many local restaurants, as a generous, giving soul and Mama Bear, who took care of, and took in, anyone around her who needed help. She was a beautiful, feisty, fun loving, karaoke singing, dancing Queen at many local venues, who dedicated her entire life to her family.

Gabriella was predeceased by her husband, Donald F. Carroll II, her son, Donald F. Carroll III, and more recently, exactly three years to the date, her brother, Anthony Lanci, Sr. of Chelsea, as well as her mother, Malvina (Lanci) Palermo and her father, Vincenzo Lanci and two brothers, Nicola and Luciano, who passed away in a mutual explosion that occurred many years ago in Italy.

Gabriella will be lovingly missed by her daughter, Diane M. Oriole and her husband, Tim of West Newbury, her son, Christopher S. Carroll of Chelsea, her daughter, Charlotte J. Illgen and her husband, Robert of West Newbury, her sister, Maria Spathanas of Holbrook and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cherished friends, and pets.
