UAW Region 9A Becomes 9th Labor Union To Endorse Roberto Jimenez-Rivera for State Rep.

Special to the Record

This week School Committee member at-large Roberto Jimenez-Rivera announced that he has received the endorsement of the United Auto Workers Region 9A, a union representing over 50,000 workers in Massachusetts, other north east states, and Puerto Rico. UAW Region 9A joins eight other labor unions that have endorsed or supported Roberto to date, including Boston Carmens Local 589, UFCW 1445, IBEW 2222, SEIU 888, the Massachusetts Teachers Association, American Federation of Teachers – Massachusetts, Chelsea Teachers Union, and Boston Teachers Union.

UAW represents workers in the auto industry, casinos, and higher education, among others. “This is a special endorsement for our team, because my wife Sarah Neville is represented by UAW as a member of the Boston College Graduate Employees Union,” said Jimenez-Rivera.

“This spring, I spoke at a rally on campus, protesting Boston College’s poor healthcare for graduate workers, and I was called in for a disciplinary hearing as a result. Roberto was at my side during the hearing, which a very transparent attempt at worker intimidation and union-busting,” said Neville. “Whether it’s fighting for workers’ rights, investing in our community, or campaigning for elected office, we do everything as a family.”

Jimenez-Rivera and Neville live in Chelsea with their two-year-old son Robi. Jimenez-Rivera’s other endorsements include the National Association of Social Workers Massachusetts PACE, Environmental League of Massachusetts, and the Sierra Club.
