CHS Boys Track Runs Past Everett

The Chelsea High boys outdoor track and field team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 72-55 victory over Everett last week at Chelsea Stadium.

 Emmanuel Simon topped the CHS scoring chart with 12 points on the day. Emmanuel led a Red Devil sweep in the triple jump with a final landing of 37’-6.50”, took second in the 100 dash with a sprint of 1.8, grabbed second in the 200 with a dash of 24.9, and finished third in the long jump with a flight of 17’-7.5”.

Nate Nadow was a double-winner, scoring 10 points on the day. Nate captured the 400 hurdles in a time of 65.0 seconds and the 800 meter run in 2:19.

Jeffrey Ponce won the shot-put with a throw of 40’-9” and took second in the discus with a spin of 90’-5” for an eight-point afternoon.

Carlos Jiminez Mora also tallied eight points. Carlos won the javelin with a throw of 109’-7” and took second in the 110 hurdles with a clocking of 19.7 seconds.

Ali Warsame took first in the 400 dash in 53.3, third in the triple jump with a landing of 36’-3.5, and ran a leg of the winning 4 x 400 relay to place 7.25 points on the Chelsea score sheet.

Ian Padilla outran the field in the two-mile with a time of 11:41.7 and grabbed a third in the javelin with a throw of 82’-7” to record six points.

Alexander Estrada led a Red Devil sweep of the mile with a clocking of 5:18.6 and ran a leg of the winning 4 x 400 relay to add 6.25 points to the CHS tally.

Adding three points to the Chelsea side of the scoresheet with a second-place performance was Alejandro Zepeda in the mile (5:30.3).

Third-place points were scored by: Nasir Adams in the triple jump (31’-11”) and the 400 dash (58.3); Gary Giron in the 110 hurdles (20.0); Austin Freeman in the 800 (2:22); Ruben Padilla in the mile (5:39.2); and Johnny Maldonado in the two-mile (12:09).

The quartet of Ali Warsame, Alex Estrada, Austin Freeman, and Alejandro Zepeda captured the 4 x 400 relay with a clocking of 4:04.0, which was 23 seconds faster than their Crimson Tide counterparts.

Coach Cesar Hernandez and his crew are scheduled to host Malden today (Thursday) at Chelsea Stadium.

CHS Girls Track Falls Short to Everett

The Chelsea High girls outdoor track and field team came out on the short end of a closely-contested 73-61 decision to Everett this past Thursday at Chelsea Stadium.

Gizelle Rodriguez was the top scorer for the Lady Devils, accumulating 16 points on the day. Gizelle won the 100 dash in a clocking of 13.8 seconds, took top spot in the 400 dash in 64.0,  took second in the long jump with a flight of 14’-2”, and grabbed second in the javelin with a throw of 70’-4”;

Jasmine Maradiaga added 13 points to the Chelsea scoresheet. Jasmine won the 400 meter hurdles in a clocking of 80.2 seconds, captured the 800 in 3:05.1, and took second in the high jump with a leap of 4’-4”, 

Dhalia Christmas won the shot-put with a throw of 26’-0” and took third in the discus with a spin of 57’-9” to score six points.

Rosalinda Rojas won the mile in 7:23.1 and Holly Hatleberg won the two-mile in 16:22.2, just edging teammate Reina Moreira, who came across the line in second place in 16:23.1.

Contributing three points to the Chelsea side of the scoresheet with second-place performances were: Giselle Olivar in the 400 hurdles in a time of 80.5 and the 100 hurdles in 20.0;  Valerie Ramirez in the triple jump with a final landing of 26’-7.5”; and Darily Sanchez in the 200 dash with a sprint of 29.3; 

Ashley Mejia added a point with a third-place finish in the 800 in 3:31.1.

Coach Cesar Hernadez and his crew, who stand at 3-1 on the season, will entertain Malden today (Thursday) at Chelsea Stadium.
