There were few surprises from Chelsea voters in Tuesday’s state election.
Chelsea voters overwhelmingly supported Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris over Republican Donald Trump by a margin of 5,635 to 2,539.
Overall, 8,616 of the city’s 18,111 registered voters cast ballots for a turnout of just under 46 percent.
In local races, incumbent Democratic State Representative Judith Garcia and incumbent Democratic State Senator Sal DiDomenico both ran unopposed and were returned to office.
In one of the other contested races on the state ballot, incumbent Democratic US Senator Elizabeth Warren defeated Republican challenger John Deaton.
In Chelsea, Warren finished with 5,914 votes to 2,077 for Deaton.
Democratic Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley also ran unopposed for another term and was returned to office.
Six years ago, you sent me to Washington with a mandate for transformative change,” Pressley said Tuesday evening. “And tonight, on the anniversary of Shirley Chishom’s election to Congress, you have decisively re-elected me as your Congresswoman for a fourth term. From the bottom of my heart, I am so grateful.”
Chelsea voters supported ballot questions allowing the state auditor to audit the legislature, doing away with the MCAS test as a graduation requirement, giving rideshare drivers the ability to unionize, and establishing a higher minimum wage for servers. Chelsea voters did not back a ballot initiative allowing for the medical use of some psychedelic drugs.
