CHS boys soccer looks to rebound
It was a tough week for the Chelsea High boys soccer team, which dropped both of oits contests this past week.
Last Thursday, coach Mick Milutinovic’s squad came up short by a score of 2-1 to Lynn English. Jorge Perez scored the Chelsea goal on a header off a corner kick.
This past Tuesday the Red Devils fell at first-place Revere, which is undefeated with a 10-0-2 record, by a score of 8-2.
Esteban Calderon notched the first Chelsea goal when he beat the Revere keeper and deposited the ball into the open net. Erick Herrera reached the back of the Patriot net for the second Chelsea goal with a superb strike from outside the box.
The Red Devils, who have now dropped four straight matches after a four-game winning streak and stand at 5-7 on the season, will seek to get back on the winning track at Malden today (Thursday). They will entertain Medford next Tuesday and Lynn Classical next Thursday, with both of those matches set to kick off on the Chelsea Stadium turf at 5:45.
CHS girls volleyball qualifies for touRNey
The Chelsea High girls volleyball team punched its ticket for a Journey to the Tourney with a 3-1 victory at New Mission last Friday. The triumph marked the third victory in a row for coach Gloria Rodriguez’s squad, improving their record to 10-6 on the season and assuring them of the .500 record needed to qualify for the post-season in Division 2.
The Lady Red Devils played at Medford this past Monday and hosted Lynn Classical yesterday (Wednesday). They will trek to Lynn English next Monday and will entertain Swampscott in the regular season finale next Tuesday.
CHS football hosts Malden Friday night
The Chelsea High football team will host Malden for a Friday Night Lights contest tomorrow (Friday) evening on the turf at Chelsea Stadium. The opening kickoff is set for 6:00.
The Red Devils will make the short trek westward down the Parkway to Hormel Stadium next Thursday to meet Medford for a 6:00 kickoff.
PR times for CHS runners
Although the Chelsea High boys and girls cross country teams came up short in their meet last Wednesday with Medford on the Red Devils’ home course at Admiral’s Hill, there were some notable performances by members of the team.
For the girls, Hazel Hatleberg set a personal record (PR) when she broke 23 minutes in a 5K for the first time with a clocking of 22:48, which gave Hazel a third-place finish in the meet. Teammates Angely Mejia came across in sixth place with a time of 26:40 and Aly Perez took ninth spot with a clocking of 28:01.
On the boys’ side, Sherwin Kim set a PR with a clocking of 19:23, which was good for sixth place. He was followed by teammates Ivan Irias Padilla in seventh in 19:33; Kyle Leong in ninth in 19:42; Eric Anderson in 10th in 20:30; and Sebastian Molina in 15th in 21:16.
Other Red Devils who competed in the meet were Bryan Amaya (21:59), Carlos Perez (22:10), Gamliel Artica (22:24), Alex Chang (25:34), Royal Tun (26:19), and Jose Vega (28:59). Coach Cesar Hernandez and his crew concluded their dual meet season yesterday (Wednesday) at Revere and will compete in the annual Greater Boston League Meet next Wednesday at Macdonald Park in Medford.
