CHS Fall Sports Start This Week

The 2021 fall sports season swings into gear this week with all of the Chelsea High sports teams engaging in their season-openers.

The Red Devil volleyball team, under the direction of head coach Gabriel Morales, got its season underway yesterday (Wednesday) with a match against Greater Boston League foe Lynn Classical.

Morales and his crew, who played well in a 2-0 victory over Winthrop in a pre-season scrimmage last Tuesday, will hit the road for their next three matches at non-league foe Cambridge Rindge & Latin today (Thursday), at Somerville next Monday, and at Everett next Wednesday.

The girls who will comprise the 2021 edition of the CHS volleyball team are:  Mayerly Avendano Gomez, Guidaysis Castro Santiago, Dhalia Christmas, Rileigh Connors, Ada Figueroa, Bivian Gonzalez, Amy Herrera Castillo, Jasmine Maradiaga Varela, Luis Medina Ramos, Joselinne Moran Palma, Christian Ortiz, Brandon Rodriguez Pereira, Alondra Rodriguez Rodriguez, and Bryan Vicente Galicia.

The Chelsea High girls soccer team, coached by 

Randy Grajal, is gearing up for another exciting season led by a trio of captains, senior Lana Pineda, junior Rusby Santizo, and junior Katie Arias.

“The captains were chosen based on their commitment to the team and their hard work to improve their skills and the team overall,” noted Grajal. “The team has been working hard to prepare for our first game and we’re looking forward to kicking off our season.”

Grajal and his crew will play at GBL rival Lynn Classical today (Thursday). They will host Somerville next Tuesday and Everett next Thursday at Chelsea Stadium.

Long-time CHS boys head coach Mick Milutinovic and his crew open their 2021 campaign today (Thursday) with a match against Lynn Classical at Chelsea Stadium.

Next week they will entertain Lynn English on Monday and travel to Somerville on Tuesday and make the short trek to Everett next Thursday.

Coach Sam Fogel’s CHS cross-country team was set to toe the starting line yesterday (Wednesday) at Somerville. They will host Everett on their home course at Admiral’s Hill next Wednesday.

The CHS football team opens its season tomorrow (Friday) evening at Salem. The kickoff at Bertram Field is set for 7:00.

Chelsea High School Track and Field open to the Community

The City of Chelsea and the Chelsea Public School District invite the community to the Veterans Memorial Stadium track and field Mondays through Thursdays from 6:30-8:30pm during the fall season. At these times, runners and walkers can take advantage of the all-weather track, and families and friends wishing to play touch football or soccer may use the field. Please note that pets, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, roller skates, hoverboards, strollers, or athletic shoes with metal spikes are not permitted. No food, gum, or tobacco products are permitted. Only water is permissible. It is a time for residents to engage in healthy activities and enjoy this valuable park and open space without the need for a permit.
