Louis F. DePrizio

May 11, 1949 — August 31, 2021

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Lou DePrizio, of Chelsea.  He passed away after falling ill to a serious infection on Tuesday, August 31 surrounded by his family.  He was 72 years of age.

Born and raised in Chelsea, a beloved son of the late Nicholas and Josephine (Olivero) DePrizio, he married  Christine T. (May) in 1972 and shared the past 49 years with love and devotion raising their family of five and welcoming eleven adoring grandchildren.

A lifelong Chelsea resident, Lou gave back to the community with service as Chelsea Little League President and as a coach of Chelsea youth baseball for over two decades leading the Royals (Little League) and Yankees (Pony League) to multiple city championships, while positively helping to shape the lives of Chelsea’s youth. He also spent years as a coach with the Chelsea Youth Basketball League and Chelsea Pop-Warner Football.

Lou will be remembered for his kind heart, good nature, and desire to provide generously for all around him. Growing up Italian, food was a centerpiece of life and a way of showing love. He was an avid food-shopper at Market Basket Chelsea and loved to spend his time in the kitchen. On holidays he was known for cooking double the amount of needed food as it was “sinful” to run out of any dish a guest would want.

In the summer he spent peaceful time in Windsor, New Hampshire with family, grilling more meat than possibly needed, playing games, puzzling, keeping the fridge stocked with drinks and building a legacy that will be carried forward with pride by his children and future generations. Grampy deeply loved his eleven grandkids and swelled with joy in having them play carelessly together and watching them grow as the next generation.

A lover of organization, efficiency, strategy and numbers, Lou spent his career from 1979 till 2010 across Cabot Corp, Distrigas and Suez Energy as Chief Dispatcher. His work provided him with the means to support his family and fueled his humble generosity.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Christine T. DePrizio, his son, Michael DePrizio and his wife, Kate and their children Sophia, Sadie, Will and Charlie; daughter Jenn DePrizio and her husband, Tom Fleming and  their daughter Josie; daughter, Allison Frometa, her husband, Ramelfo  their son RJ; daughter Jessica Cole, her husband, Levar and their children: Jonathan, Benjamin, Nicholas, Julia and Robert; and son Nick DePrizio; sisters: Rosalie Ferullo  and Virginia Amara and her husband, Domenic; mother-in-law, Irene May; sister-in-law, Joyce Boudreau and her husband, Steve and sister-in-law, Mary Ellyn Webb and her husband David.  He is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, especially his lifelong friends Vinny Gargano and Dennis Tiro (who will now have to place three-team parlay bets without him.)  In addition to his parents, Lou was predeceased by his father-in-law, Joseph May.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Welsh Funeral Home, 718 Broadway, Chelsea. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett

The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff at Beth Israel Hospital for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Louis DePrizio may be made to the Transplant Fund at Beth Israel Lahey Health by check made payable to “Beth Israel Lahey Health” with “Louis DePrizio/Transplant Fund” in the memo line.
