Two Deaths, Believed Suspicious, Under Investigation

Chelsea Police detectives and State Police homicide detectives are investigating the suspicious deaths of an Everett man and woman in Chelsea early Monday morning, according to Chelsea Chief Brian Kyes and Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley.

After a 9-1-1 call just before 4 a.m. Monday, Chelsea Police, Chelsea Fire, and emergency medical technicians responded to Crescent Avenue to find an adult male and an adult female deceased inside a blue Ford LTD.

Zouaoui Dani-Elkebir, 51, of Everett, and a female victim, Karima El-Hakim, 38, also of Everett, were reported as being the deceased.

Both are believed to be of Moroccan descent, and were in a livery vehicle at the time of their death, sources said. One source indicated that they both still had warm cups of coffee sitting in their laps when discovered.

Another source said that the shooting allegedly took place further up the street near Spencer and Parker Streets, and that after their death, the victims drove their car into a building down the street on Crescent Avenue.

After the initial response to the scene, Chelsea Police notified the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit, which has jurisdiction over death investigations in Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop, and parts of Boston, and which is working with the Chelsea Police Criminal Investigative Division. Also responding were various specialized State Police units, including the Crime Scene Services Section.

Investigators believe the deaths to be suspicious, although the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will formally determine cause and manner of death.

A source close to the scene indicated that investigators were looking at whether there was a third person in the livery vehicle during the shooting, or if a vehicle might have pulled up beside the victims.

Inside reports indicated that investigators were frustrated in the initial response due to the fact that there were possibly no working video surveillance cameras in the area. Police, however, did not confirm that.
