The Chelsea High boys basketball team will embark on its Journey to the Tourney tonight (Thursday) hosting Beverly of the Northeastern Conference in an opening round game of the Division 2 North Sectional at the CHS gymnasium.
Chelsea, which compiled a fine 14-6 record, is seeded eight in the D-2 North. Beverly (13-7) is seeded ninth. The teams met during the regular season in the Beverly Christmas Tourney with Beverly prevailing by a slim 67-62 margin in a contest that went down to the wire
Chelsea led most of the way in that one, but some key turnovers in the final period allowed Beverly to pull ahead.
“We’re be ready to play,” said CHS head coach Jay Seigal on the eve of the contest. “Our first game with them was a close one and we expect this one will be as well. They have a height advantage, but we hope to be able to get into our running game.
“We’re rested and healthy and we played two strong scrimmages this past week (against Pope John and Mystic Valley), so we should be able to give it our best,” added the coach.
The winner will advance to play the victor of the matchup between Salem and No. Andover, the No. 1 seed in the North. The date and time of that contest have not been announced.
