Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley Announces 2024 Re-Election Campaign

Special to the Record

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) has officially announced her campaign for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Pressley will host her first campaign rally tomorrow, joined by supporters, workers, and labor leaders from across Massachusetts.

“It is a deep honor to represent the bold, diverse, brilliant residents of the Massachusetts 7th in Washington,” said Congresswoman Pressley. “Working together over the past five years, we’ve fought for policies of consequence to our district, from abortion access and reproductive freedom, to student loan cancellation and housing justice. And we’ve delivered essential federal resources for the communities we call home – more than $35 million in funding to support community health centers, vital transit projects, workforce training, climate justice, and more.”

“The stakes in this election are, once again, unprecedented,” she continued. “Our democracy has been pushed to the brink. Insurrectionists and misinformation peddlers are working overtime to distract and disenfranchise us. But the strength of our progressive movement has never faltered.”

“This diverse, intergenerational movement led by the people has proven the change we can make when we organize, mobilize our collective power, and lead with love. And we’re just getting started.”

Congresswoman Pressley’s campaign video, “A Love Letter to the Massachusetts 7th”, uplifts the beauty, unapologetic joy, and collective power of the MA-07 community.

First elected in 2018, Congresswoman Pressley made history as the first woman of color elected to represent Massachusetts in the U.S. Congress. In the five-plus years since then, she has asked the hard questions, unapologetically pursued impactful policy solutions, and relentlessly worked for her district.

Congresswoman Pressley has secured over $35 million in federal funding for high-impact community projects that will help build a more just and equitable district. She has effectively pushed President Biden to cancel student debt, and she has led vital legislation like the Abortion Justice Act; the PAID Leave Act; the Down Payment Toward Equity Act, to invest $100 billion toward down payment assistance for first-generation, first-time homebuyers; the Freedom to Move Act, supporting state and local efforts to establish public transportation as a public good; and the Post-Disaster Mental Health Response Act, signed into law by President Biden, which expands mental health support for survivors of natural disasters and terrorist attacks.

Congresswoman Pressley currently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, and the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. She is the Chair of the Abortion Rights and Access Task Force of the Pro-Choice Caucus, Co-Chair of the Equal Rights Amendment Caucus, a founding member of the Black Maternal Health Caucus, Founding Chair of the Future of Transportation Caucus, co-founder of the House Haiti Caucus, and a member of several other caucuses and task forces.
