Joseph-Seale, Davis Win Medals at MIAA Meet of Champions

A trio of members of the Chelsea High boys and girls indoor track and field teams competed at last Saturday’s MIAA Meet of Champions, which features all of the division winners and others who comprise the top-25 competitors in each event in the state, that was held last Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston.

The highlight performance for Chelsea was turned in by Lady Red Devil Lamari Davis, who won a sixth-place medal in the weight throw event with a toss of 41’-’0.75.” (Athletes throw a metal ball, 16 lbs. for men, 8.8 lbs. for women, that is attached to a grip by a steel wire no longer than four inches while remaining inside a seven-foot diameter circle.)

“This was almost nine feet better than Lamari’s previous best and set a new school record,” said CHS head coach Cesar Hernandez. “She was seeded 13th on the performance list, but finished sixth overall because of her massive personal record (PR).”

On the boys’ side, Theo Joseph-Seale also competed in the weight throw and likewise finished sixth overall with his throw of 50’-6.25”.

“It wasn’t what we wanted as an end result, but it was a solid throw,” noted Hernandez. “We expect a PR when Theo competes in the emerging division at the Nike Indoor Nationals.”

Red Devil Ariel Aracena finished 11th overall in the shot-put with a toss of 49’-1.5”.

“Although this wasn’t a PR, it was still a very good throw and a great way to end his first indoor season,” noted Hernandez. “We are really excited for Ariel’s outdoor season where we expect his growth to continue.”
