Martin Rosario-Lopez

November 23, 1944- October 12, 2022

Martin Rosario-Lopez, 77, passed away on Wednesday, October 12 at the CHA-Everett Hospital after a sudden decline of health. 

Born and raised in Higuey, Dominican Republic, he was one of nine children born to the late Virgilio Rosario and Monsa Lopez.  Martin attended schools in Higuey. He married his childhood sweetheart Martina Guerrero 60 years ago and together raised their family of two sons and one daughter.

Martin worked in construction and as a self-employed vendor selling souveniers and giftware in the DR.  He settled in Chelsea 50 years ago and began his career as a chef at several Boston Area Restaurants.

He is remembered as a devoted father and hard worker.  In his lifetime he enjoyed socializing with friends, playing cards and dominos.  

In addition to his parents, Martin was recently predeceased in August by his son, Benito Rosario. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martina Guerrero and was the devoted father of Paula Valdez and her husband, Manuel of Revere, and Ingrid Elizabeth Rosario of Lawrence; dear brother of Andrea Rosario and Isabel Rosario, both of Chelsea, Virgilio, Dario, Guillermo, Josefa, Domingo and Frank Rosario, all residing in the Dominican Republic; cherished grandfather of Ricky Valdez, Jordael Valdez, Benny Rosario, Bennyliz Rosario, Amy Rosario, Waldy Rosario, Wendy Rosario, Daniel Rosario, Neralis Liriano, Joseph Valdez, Jose Valdez and Virginia Valdez. He is also survived by several great grandchildren, extended family members and friends. 

Relatives and friends attended visiting hours on Tuesday, October 18 at the Welsh Funeral Home, 718 Broadway, Chelsea.  Services will conclude later with Martin being placed to rest in the Cementerio el Buen Pastor in Higuey, Dominican Republic.

Lydia Esther Molina

September 21, 1950 – October 13, 2022

Lydia Molina, beloved wife, and devoted mother, passed away on Thursday, October 13. She was 72 years of age. 

Born and raised in San Turce, Puerto Rico, she was a beloved daughter of the late Maria Asuncion Figueroa and Pedro Molina.  Growing up in San Turce, she attended nursing school before moving to New York City. 

In New York, she met and married Julio Quiles.  Together they came to Chelsea in 1969, raised her own family of four, adopted three and was a foster mother to 278 children in need. 

A woman of strong faith and charity, she became a church missionary and accepted several mission assignments to El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico and Santa Domingo, promoting faith, providing education, literacy, social justice, health care and economic development.  

She became an ordained minister 13 years ago and was a spiritual leader at the Casa de Dios Church on Clark Avenue in Chelsea. 

The doors to her own home and kitchen were always open and ever ready to a welcome of shelter or a good meal.  She is lovingly remembered as everyone’s super-mom. 

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Julio A. Quiles, Sr., the devoted mother of Julio A. Quiles, Jr. and his, wife Caniz of Revere, Vivian Quiles of Chelsea, Anthony Quiles and his wife, Glenda of Winchester, Ernesto Quiles and his wife, Anna Yee of Danvers, Frank Quiles and his wife, Mila of Lynn, Jorge Quiles of El Salvador and Lovenska Scott of Connecticut; dear sister of Leticia Ortiz of Peabody, Ernesto Perez of Chelsea, Pedro Molina of Erie, PA, and Hildi Molina of Florida.  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 278 foster children.

Visiting hours were from the Welsh Funeral Home, 718 Broadway, Chelsea on Wednesday October 19.   Her Funeral will be held from the Iglesias la Luz de Cristo, 738 Broadway, Chelsea at 10 a.m.  today. Services will conclude with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Robert Crossley, Jr.

He Will Be Remembered as a Leader Who Marched to the Beat of His Own Drum

Robert L. Crossley, Jr, 54, of West Roxbury, passed away on Thursday, October 13. 

Born and raised in Lynn, the son of Robert L. Crossley and Elizabeth (Burns) Crossley and the step-son of William Dixon, he has lived in Chelsea and Revere and most recently in West Roxbury.

Bob worked as a professional painter for many years.  He loved baseball and enjoyed good food.  He was involved with youth sports and had coached Chelsea Little League.  In his younger years, he was a member of the Highlanders Street Hockey League in Lynn. 

Bob was a great person with a great sense of humor and he wore his heart on his sleeve.  He was always willing to help anyone, never asking for anything in return.  He will be remembered as a leader who marched to the beat of his own drum and he always said what was on his mind.

In addition to his parents and step-father, he is survived by his longtime companion, Chianta Mack; his children, Troy Crossley and Tyra Crossley; his siblings, Michael Crossley, Kerry Crossley and Virginia Crossley Holmes and her husband, Andy as well as several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn, with a funeral service beginning at 3 p.m.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

Robert Gaff, Sr.

Past President of the United Pile Drivers Union of Boston

Robert C. Gaff Sr., of Bucksport, ME and Vero Beach, FL, passed away October 3 with loved ones by his side, after a brief illness in Vero Beach, FL.  Born in Chelsea on August 3, 1938, the son of the late Arthur and Bernice (Corbin) Gaff, Robert grew up in Chelsea, enlisted in the US Army, Air Borne Division and served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.  Bob was a retired pile driver operator, having worked in the Pile Drivers Union for a number of years before his retirement.  He was a past President of the United Pile Drivers Union of Boston, Union Local #56, a late member of the American Legion Post in Bangor, ME, and a Past Post Commander of the VFW Post #1761, Bucksport, ME, where he made many friends.  Bob married Anita L. (Penque), with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage prior to her death in 2017.  The couple moved to Maine after retirement and built their log home at Williams Pond Bucksport.  Bob was a lifelong New England Patriots fan and an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Bucksport, ME. He enjoyed flea markets, antiquing and being with his family and friends.   He will be forever missed by all who loved him. Bob was the beloved father of Robert C Gaff, Jr. and Eve of Lynn, Alecia Dufour of Florida and the late Scott M. Gaff; dear brother of Donna Whitney and her husband, Tom of Maine and the late Lois Rossetti, Michael Gaff, Vincent Gaff, Bernie Gaff and brother-in-law of Sharon Gaff Eyles of Maine. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, a dear friend, Sandi Sanford and his best girl, Daisy, his constant companion and by many friends in Florida and Maine.  Relatives and friends gathered on Thursday, October 13 at the Carafa Family Funeral Home in Chelsea for a visitation followed by a Funeral Service in the Funeral Home.  Bob’s funeral services concluded with military honors and interment in the family lot at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.  Family and friends are encouraged to visit carafafuneralhome.com to offer condolences by means of the online guest book or to send a personalized sympathy card
