Retired Nurse’s Aide
Sabrina Pena Ortiz, 79, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, May 23 while at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Born and raised in Piura, Peru, she settled in Chelsea as a young woman and has been a resident of Chelsea for most of her life. She was married for 42 years to Juan Antonio Ortiz and was recently widowed this past November when Juan passed away.
Sabrina worked outside of her home for many years as a Nurse’s Aide at Annemark Nursing Home in Revere and retired several years ago. A lifelong devoted Catholic, Sabrina was a dedicated and active parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Parish and its community. Sabrina was a devoted homemaker and mother who enjoyed sewing and other homecrafts for her extended family.
She was the devoted mother of Marcos A. Kuilan of Malden and cherished grandmother to Marcos’ children, Samai E. Kuilan and Davina Kuilan; Jose Rosario of Woburn and cherished grandmother to Jose’s children: Jennifer, Mary, Shane J. Mercauto and Shawn P. Rosario and adored great grandmother of Desamora Mercauto and Percseus Mercauto, Johnny Rosario of Cambridge and cherished grandmother to his children: Krystyna M. Rosario and John D. Coyer. She was the dear sister of Mercedes of Revere and several siblings in Peru and the beloved aunt of Mary Cuentas of Chelsea. She is also survived by several additional nieces and nephews close to home and in Peru.
Visiting hours will be held from the Welsh Funeral Home, 718 Broadway, Chelsea on Tuesday, May 31 from 4 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend. Her Funeral from the Welsh Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 1, at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Rose Church, 600 Broadway, Chelsea at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
