Supporting María Belén Power for District 8 Council

Dear Editor,

We are pleased to endorse María Belén Power as a candidate for District 8 City Council.  She has demonstrated her willingness to work hard on issues that affect the lives of people across the City of Chelsea.    Now she has decided to bring her energy to representing District 8 and we welcome her involvement.

We have known and worked with María Belén for over 10 years on issues of concern to the city.  One of these issues was the successful effort to stop the ethanol train from traveling through city.   Other projects include the Tobin Bridge/Viaduct project and the creation of the Chelsea Task Force.  Out of these efforts came the project to secure air and noise monitoring throughout the city which brought attention to what we all know are problems.  It also created a direct line to the MBTA that enabled us to insist on better day to day service and to advocate to ensure that there was no decrease in service during Covid for the City’s essential workers.  This work continues.

María Belén has been active in bringing a micro grid project to the city to provide access to affordable and reliable electricity and internet.   We have also discussed the lack of affordable housing and the concern of many residents with the amount of development happening all at once in our small and dense city.  These issues impact our overall quality of life from congestion to the schools and maintaining and building of community spirit.  María Belén is willing to listen to people of Chelsea and work along side them to find solutions.

On a personal level, María Belén and her family live in our neighborhood.  Her two young daughters are well known by most of us for their smiles and small gifts of pinecone and rock art that were especially welcomed during the bleak covid year and half.

We whole heartly endorse María Belén Power as a candidate for District 8 City Council.  She will listen to our issues and do her best to represent the district.

Maura and Paula Garrity
