O’Regan to Run for District 1 City Council Seat

Shawn O’Regan announced that he is officially running for the vacant District 1 City Council seat, and he will appear on the ballot for the Sept. 26 Preliminary Election.

O’Regan comes to the race with considerable experience in public office having served two terms on the School Committee prior to announcing his District 1 intentions.

“The School Committee taught me a lot about how to get things done,” he said. “Attending the sub-committee meetings and regular meetings and the behind  the scenes things has prepared me for this District 1 seat. My number one priority is going to be public safety in the Prattville area. I’d like to build a great relationship with Chief Kyes and be pro-active in working on the problems in the district.”

O’Regan said he wants to use Washington Park more often, and proposed having events like movie nights, pizza tastings and a fall chili cook off. He also said he wants to institute a neighborhood clean up twice a year in the Washington Park area. That, he said, hasn’t happened in a while, and he’s ready to spearhead the effort if elected.

He is proposing to have monthly meetings of the district to hear concerns and issues that aren’t being addressed already. He said getting input from the residents will be a key part of how he sets his agenda in the office.

O’Regan lives on Garfield Avenue and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1998.

He is the president of Chelsea Little League, a member of the School Committee, vice president of Chelsea Pride football and a long-time helper at the Boys & Girls Club.

He is third on the ballot in District 1.
