Agnes Birmingham

The death of Agnes Birmingham is a great loss for her two sons and daughter and for her grandchildren and for those of us who knew her so well.

Agnes was warm and genuine.

Everyone who met her liked her and so it is hardly a surprise that she aided her son Tom, our friend, who rose to become the Senate President of Massachusetts. Her special touch with people helped him out at election time, always.

However, Agnes loved her three children equally, as is pointed out in the obituary appearing on the front page.

Her life and her being weren’t all about Tom. It was about Tom and his sister Nancy and his brother James.

Recently her interests were more about her grandchildren than the children.

In the words of Robert Browning, the great 19th Century English poet: “Motherhood: All love begins and ends there.”

We know how great a loss Agnes Birmingham’s death is to those whom she loved for a lifetime and who she cared about for all her days on this earth.

We offer the family our condolences.

You’ve lost a great lady who loved all of you with her heart and soul.
