Chelsea police investigate Monday morning shooting

Chelsea Police Detectives are investigating an early morning shooting that was reported in the hallway of 61 Shurtleff Street Monday.

Chelsea officers responded to a call of a gunshot victim at that address. Officers found Rigoberto Herrara, 39, of the same address who was conscious and alert after being shot twice in the arm by a lone assailant.

The victim said while walking home he was followed by a young light skinned Hispanic male wearing a red and blue hooded sweatshirt that entered the doorway of the his home in an apparent robbery attempt.

Herrara was shot at three times and struck twice in the attack.

The shooter reportedly fled on foot toward Essex Street.

Herrara was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Chelsea Detectives are continuing the investigation.
