With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Kevin G. Murphy, who left this world on September 14, 2026, at the age of 83, after a courageous battle with chronic kidney illness. A lifelong resident of Chelsea, Kevin was born on May 20, 1943, the beloved son of the late Andrew P. and Anna T. (Callahan) Murphy and was one of nine treasured children.
Kevin’s early education began at St. Rose Parochial School, followed by his graduation from Chelsea High School in 1961. He dedicated 65 years to the Suffolk County Court system, starting in the mailroom and rising to assistant Clerk of Suffolk Superior Court from 1974 to1994 and then to the esteemed position of Clerk Magistrate, a role he held proudly under the appointment of Governor William Weld.
On September 24, 1966, Kevin wed the love of his life, Virginia M. (Dennehy) Murphy, and together they shared a remarkable journey spanning 60 years. The couple welcomed three wonderful sons, Kevin G. Jr., Daniel F. and Paul R. Murphy, and embraced the joy of their sons’ wives and six grandchildren.
He was a longtime resident in the Prattville neighborhood, and parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church. He was an active participant in community organizations like the Cary Square Associates and the Chelsea Yacht Club; Kevin was especially passionate about boating. Many joyful summers were spent at their beloved summer home on Murphy Lane in Tilton, NH, on picturesque Lake Winnisquam.
In addition to his parents, Andrew and Anna, he was also predeceased by his eight siblings; Andrew J., Edward, and Brendan Murphy, Eileen Mullaney, Patricia Doherty, Kathleen Paris, Barbara Parow, and Sheila Zecha.
Kevin is lovingly survived by his devoted wife Virginia, their sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin G. Murphy, Jr. and his wife, Joanne of Malden, Daniel F. Murphy and his wife, Nicole of Saugus, and Paul R. Murphy and his wife, Erin of Chelsea, along with his cherished grandchildren; Brendan, Daniel Jr., Ava, Kylah, Mason, and Brielle Murphy. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and a host of extended family members and friends, all of whom will carry forward his legacy of kindness, dedication, and love.
Relatives and friends attended visiting hours for Kevin G. Murphy in the Welsh Funeral Home, l 718 Broadway, Chelsea, on Monday, September 21st and his funeral was conducted from the funeral home on Tuesday, September 22nd at 10:00 A.M., followed immediately by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Grace Church, 59 Nichols St., Chelsea at 11 a.m.
As we celebrate his life, we honor the extraordinary man Kevin was—his unwavering spirit, deep devotion to family, and contributions to the community will forever be remembered and cherished. May he rest in peace.
