On Friday, August 28, the Chelsea Police Department celebrated the last official shift and retirement of Officer Bernard Grayson after nearly 41 years of dedicated service to the Chelsea Police Department and the City of Chelsea.
“Officer Grayson’s career is one that represents the very best of what it means to be a police officer,” said Chelsea Police Chief Keith Houghton. “His compassion, dedication, courage, and unwavering commitment to the people of Chelsea have been beyond reproach. Throughout his four decades of service, he consistently treated people with dignity and respect while carrying out his responsibilities with professionalism and integrity.
The chief said one of Officer Grayson’s greatest contributions will be the legacy he leaves behind through the decades of officers he mentored.
“The example he set through his professionalism, patience, knowledge, and manner of treating others has influenced countless members of this department,” said Houghton. “Those lessons will continue to be passed from one generation of Chelsea Police Officers to the next.”
Houghton said Grayson has given nearly 41 years of his life to protecting and serving this community. That is an extraordinary accomplishment and one that deserves our deepest gratitude and respect.
“Bernie, you will be greatly missed around the Chelsea Police Department,” Houghton said. “But while your time wearing the uniform may be coming to an end, your legacy will continue through the officers you mentored, the people you helped, and the example you set for nearly four decades.
“On behalf of the entire Chelsea Police Department, thank you for your remarkable service and dedication to the City of Chelsea.”
