Simon, Serrano pace CHS girls in split of tri-meet

The Chelsea High girls track and field team split its recent tri-meet with two GBL opponents, defeating Lynn English 88-47, but falling short to Somerville, 76-59, at Lynn’s Manning Field last Wednesday.

Sophomore Thania Simon won four events vs. both opponents to score a total of 40 points on the day. Thania won the 100 meter dash with a sprint of 12.8; the 200 dash in 27.2; the long jump with a leap of 16’-10”; and the triple jump with a distance of 34’-8”.

Sophomore Lilly Serrano also enjoyed a huge day, tallying 24 points by winning the 400 dash vs. both opponents in a clocking of 1:04.7; taking second place vs. both in the 100 dash in a time of 13.2; and grabbing first vs. English and second vs. Somerville in the high jump.

Senior Lauren Nadow took first vs. English and third vs. Somerville in the 100 hurdles; second vs. English in the 400 hurdles; and second vs. English and third vs. Somerville in the javelin for a total of 13 points.

Hazel Hatleberg outran the field in the mile with a time of 6:39.2 to tally 10 points.

Additional point-scorers for the Lady Red Devils were:

— Aly Perez took first vs. English and third vs. Somerville in the 2-mile;

— Ashley Gomes took first vs. English and third vs. Somerville in the 400 hurdles;

— Junior Emelin Rosales grabbed a third place vs. English in the 200 dash;

— Katherine Benitez finished second vs. both rivals in the 800;

— Kimberly Fuentes Chavez finished third vs. both opponents in the 800;

— Briana Campos took third vs. English in the javelin;

— The quartet of Hatleberg, Campos, Fuentes-Chavez, and Benitez defeated Somerville in the 4 x 400 relay;

— Kiara Ramirez Villate took first vs. English and second vs. Somerville in both the shot-put and ths discus;

— Angely Mejia-Martinez took second vs. English and third vs. Someville in the discus and second vs. English in the shot;

— Dieunie Cademus finished third vs. English in the shot;

— Maria Sola-Hernandez took third vs. English in the discus;

— Leeanny Sanchez Ynoa took second vs. both opponents in the long jump;

CHS boys track defeats English

The Chelsea High boys outdoor track and field team defeated Lynn English 76-52, but fell short to undefeated Somerville, 106-30, in a tri-meet last Wednesday at Manning Field in Lynn.

Ariel Chacon-Arena outclassed the field in both the shot-put with a toss of 50’-3” (which was 13 feet further than his closest opponent) and the discus with a spin of 117’-6”. 

Ariel led a Chelsea sweep of both Somerville and English in the discus with teammates Kevin Romero-Molina and Adonis Alvarez-Umana taking second and third respectively.

Xavy Guzman sprinted past the field to take first place vs. both Somervlle and English in the 400 dash with a time of 54.2.

Additional point-scorers for the Red Devils were:

— Juan Portillo with a second in the 200 dash vs. English and a third vs. English in the javelin;

— Leeandro Castro took second vs. English in the 400 hurdles; third vs. English in the 200; first vs. English in the triple jump; and third vs. English in the long jump;

— Carlos Perez-Acosta took first vs. English and third vs. Somerville in the 800;

— Bryan Amaya-Yanes took second vs. English in the 800;

— Kyle Leong finished second vs. English in the mile;

— Ivan Irias finished first vs. English and third vs. Somerville in the 2-mile;

— Sherwin Kim took first vs. English and third vs. Somerville in the 400 hurdles and second vs. both opponents in the 110 hurdles;

— Nathanyel Ramos Quijada took first vs. English and third vs. Somerville in the high jump;

— Tiago Antunes took second vs. English in the long jump and third vs. English in the triple jump;

— Younes Sharif took third place vs. English in both the 110 and 400 hurdles;

— Kevn Romero-Molina took second vs. English and third vs. Somerville in the shot;

— Adonis Alvarez-Umana took first vs. English and second vs. Somerville in the javelin;
