Three Red Devils win medals at State Coaches
Three members of the Chelsea High indoor track and field team brought home medals at this past Saturday’s MSTCA State Coaches Small School Invitational Meet that was held at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center in Roxbury.
Sophomore Thania Simon won a fifth place medal in the triple jump with a flight of 34’-6.5.” Thania also competed in the 55 meter dash, coming across the line in 7.65 seconds, which placed her 17th in the large field of 71 contestants, all of whom had to attain qualifying times for the meet.
Lady Red Devil teammate Kiara Ramirez-Villata earned an eighth-place medal in the shot-put with a throw of 31’-10.75.”
On the boys’ side, senior Ariel Chacon-Aracena brought home a fifth-place medal in the shot-put with a throw of 48’-2.75”6
Sophomore teammate Xavier Guzman finished in 36th place in his specialty, the 600 dash, in a clocking of 1:30.84.
CHS boys hoop earns 71-61 win
The Chelsea High boys basketball team earned a 71-61 victory over the Edward Brooke Charter School this past Saturday.
The Red Devils were led in the scoring column by juniors Moe Osman and Moses Karenzo (who hit six three-pointers) with 24 points each. Fellow junior JJ Williams also reached double figures with 13 points.
“This was a collective team win,” noted CS head coach Cesar Castro.
Last Thursday, the Red Devils came up short to Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Everett by a score of 58-51. “The boys played hard,” said Castro. “We had a couple of bad turnovers and some missed shots that proved the difference.”
Castro and his crew, who were scheduled to take on GBL fo Revere this past Tuesday, will host non-league opponent Tech Boston tomorrow (Friday) at 6:00 and Lynn Classical, which is in first place in the GBL, next Thursday at 6:00.
