The Chelsea High boys and girls basketball teams will open their 2025 seasons this evening (Thursday) with contests against Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Malden. Coach Cesar Castro’s Red Devils will host the Golden Tornadoes at the CHS gym for a 6:00 opening tip, while coach Ben Jette’s Lady Red Devils will trek to Malden.
The CHS boys will play a 19-game schedule in 2025. They will take on GBL foes Revere, Lynn Classical, Medford, and Somerville twice each and meet GBL rivals Everett, Malden, and Lynn English once each. Non-league opponents include Cambridge Rindge and Latin, Brighton, Brooke Academy, Tech Boston, Boston English, East Boston, and two opponents in a tourney over the President’s Day vacation break. After tonight’s contest, Castro and his crew will travel to Somerville on Tuesday and to Lynn Classical next Thursday.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Red Devils will meet GBL foes Malden, Lynn English, Everett, and Somerville twice each and Lynn Classical, Revere, and Medford once. Non-league contests include Rockport (2), Excel Academy (2), Pioneer Charter, Mystic Valley, and Salem to complete their 18-game schedule. The Lady Red Devils will host Somerville on Tuesday (6:30) and Medford (5:30) next Thursday in the CHS gym.
