Dominic “Sour” Monzione

April 18, 1927 – March 13, 2024

 Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend visiting hours for Dominic W. “Sour” Monzione on Friday, March 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Welsh Funeral Home, 718 Broadway, Chelsea. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, March 23, at 8:30 a.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Michael the Archangel Chapel, 100 Summit Ave., Chelsea at 10 a.m.  Services will conclude with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  

At 96 years of age, “Sour” passed away after a brief decline in health on Wednesday, March 13th in the peaceful surroundings of the home he shared with his daughter in  Lakeville.

Born and raised in Chelsea, “Sour” was one of eleven children of the late Dominic and Rose (Ginoffe) Monzione.  

“Sour” was a longtime resident of Chelsea where he attended local schools.  A proud member of the US Marine Corps, he served during WW II and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1949 and returned home to Chelsea.

He was married to Mary “Mamie” (Arsenault) for 64 years and together raised three daughters and four sons and was passionately devoted to home and family.  

He worked as a Union Sheet Metal Mechanic and Fabricator in the commercial construction field and worked on many large scale building projects in Boston.  He was a longtime member of Sheet Metal Workers, Local 17 in Boston.  He retired from construction work in 1989.  On many occasions, he would point out the buildings in Boston which he was proud to be a part of constructing.  

He and “Maime” enjoyed their retirement together residing in Hallandale, FL. for many years, returning home to Chelsea during the summer to spend time with family.  

In his lifetime, “Sour” enjoyed cooking for family gatherings and Sunday Dinners, preparing and sharing his famous “Squash Pie” with family and friends, taking daily bike rides, riding for miles on end, fishing, going to Dillions Russian Steam Bath, laboring in his vegetable garden and his “three o’clock” beer.  He is fondly remembered for his dedication to maintaining good health practices and vigorous physical workouts. 

“Sour” was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary M. “Mamie” (Arsenault) Monzione in 2014.

He is survived by his loving and caring children and their spouses;  Robert Monzione and his companion, Maureen of Bradenton, Fl, and his late wife, Kathryn, James Monzione of Chelsea, Richard Monzione and his wife, Theresa of Pembroke, Margaret “Peggy” Riendeau and her husband, Jeffrey of Lakeville, Nancy Doherty and her husband, William of Walpole, Dominic Monzione, Jr. of Wakefield and Lisa Monzione of Weymouth. 

He was the cherished grandfather of Robert Monzione and his companion, Suzy, Anthony Monzione and his wife, Sabrina, and Paul Monzione and his wife, Erin, James Monzione and Kelci Monzione and her fiancé, Nick,  Courtney Monzione, Brandon Riendeau and his wife, Ahna, Khristian Riendeau, Christopher Doherty and Stephanie, Ryan Doherty, Dominic Monzione and his fiancé, Rachael, and Zachary Monzione; adoring great-grandfather of Bella, Sloane, Connor, Stella, and Beckett; dear brother of Angela Smith of Danver, and Lucy Hazelton of Hallandale FL, the late Rose Ambrogi, Mary Tosches, Eleanor Puleo, Lillian Frongillo, Carmella Wagner, Joseph J., Monzione, Sr. Michael, and William Monzione.  He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Emma Elizabeth Martin-Newberry

September 18, 1950 – March 11, 2024

Emma Elizabeth (Harvey) Martin-Newberry passed away unexpectedly after a sudden onset of Pancreatic Cancer on Monday, March 11, at the Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington.  She was 73 years old.

Born and raised in Chelsea, a beloved daughter of the late Delman and Emma F. (Spell) Harvey, Emma was a lifelong Chelsea resident where she attended local schools and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1968.

She was passionately devoted to home and family and raised one son.

Emma was married to Robert M. Newberry for ten years and was widowed in 2017.

She also worked for a short time at the MGH, Patient Accounts Receivable Dept.

In her lifetime, Emma enjoyed crocheting afghans and miscellaneous apparel items. She was an avid reader, enjoyed reading mystery novels and was an accomplished home cook.

Emma is lovingly survived by her devoted son, William “Bill” Follett and her dear sister, Donna Matrinko, both of Chelsea.

Honoring Emma’s wishes, funeral services were private.
