The Chelsea Police versus Chelsea Fire Heroes For Hope Basketball Game was held Saturday at the Saul Nechtem Gymnasium at Chelsea High School.
Chelsea Police Sgt. Star Chung and Lt. Joe Fern co-coordinated the benefit game that raised $4,315 for the day for Make-A-Wish of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Also assisting the stellar effort were Officer Garrison Daniel, Police Sgt. Michael Addonizio, and Firefighter Rony Gomez. Police Chief Keith Houghton and Fire Chief Len Albanese attended the game. Mark O’Connor (Chelsea Police) and Tony Martins (Chelsea Fire) were the coaches of the respective teams. Michael Lopez served as the official scorer.
Firefighter Danny Henriquez scored nine points to lead the Chelsea Fire Department to a 42-35 victory. Firefighter Jonathan Morel, Firefighter Rony Gomez, and Firefighter Juan Gonzalez chipped in with six points each. Lieutenant John Coyne scored five points. Firefighter Carlos Figueroa and Firefighter David Vielmann scored 3 points. Fire Capt. Department Mike Lee and Firefighter Kevin DeJesus each contributed two points.
Patrolman Luis Diaz was the game’s leading scorer with 13 points. Sgt. Michael Addonizio had 8 points. Patrolman Carlos DelCompare had five points. Police Officer David Batchelor Jr., Tom Broman and Nelson Navarro each had three points.
The Chelsea Police Community Services Division has done a great job reaching out to and meeting the community. Each August the Community Services Division holds National Night Out.
