Allen Willard Winters
Chelsea Soldier’s Home Resident for Over 20 Years
A longtime resident of the Chelsea Soldier’s Home, Allen Willard Winters passed away Friday afternoon, December 1 at the age of 74.
Born in Boston, the son of the late John D. and Eva V. (Graves) Winters, Allen received his GED from the United Autoworkers General Motors Education Opportunity Center in 1988. He began his career at General Motors in Framingham as a general assembler and later became an automotive inspector. He worked for GM for nine years before leaving the company to explore other career opportunities. He worked as a self-employed painter and subcontractor, worked in security and also worked as a service coordinator at a shelter for Veterans. Allen retired as a security officer from a security company in Worcester.
Allen had a love for his country. He enlisted in the US Army on February 24, 1970 during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a reserve of the Army on November 12, 1975. Allen re-enlisted in the Massachusetts National Guard from 1975 – 1980. Allen was also an enlisted member of the Maine Army National Guard in Bangor, ME. He received many trainings and medals for four years of Honorable Service with a Reserve Component Unit.
Allen has been a resident of the Chelsea Soldier’s Home for over 20 years. He will be forever missed by his family and all the residents and staff at the Soldier’s Home.
Allen was the father of Marybeth Broussard and her husband, William J. of New Hampshire, brother of the late Joseph C. Winters and Dorothy I. Winters, uncle of the late Donna M. Moran and great uncle of Michael S. Moran of Amesbury. He is also survived by one grandson, Justin A. Broussard.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visiting hour at the Carafa Family Funeral Home, 389 Washington Avenue, Chelsea on Friday, December 8 from 9 to10 a.m. A Graveside Service at Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm St., Everett will follow the visitation at 10:30 a.m.
