CHS Orchestra performs at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade

On Wednesday, August 5, a dozen Chelsea High School students in the CHS Orchestra took the stage at the renowned Hatch Memorial Shell on the Charles River Esplanade in Boston. The students, directed by CHS music educator Ali You, served as the opening act for the Boston Landmarks Orchestra who followed the CHS Orchestra by performing a free two-hour concert for attendees on the Esplanade.

“Seeing our Chelsea High School Orchestra students perform on the iconic Hatch Shell stage was an incredibly proud moment for our entire community,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Almi Abeyta. “Our students deserve opportunities to share their talents on some of the biggest stages, and they continue to show what is possible when their hard work, passion, and talent are given the opportunity to shine. I am grateful to the Boston Landmarks Orchestra for being such a wonderful partner to Chelsea Public Schools.”

The students had multiple rehearsals at CHS last week to prepare for this noteworthy performance. The 12 CHS students, a mix of recent graduates and current students, performed on the same stage as the Boston Pops Orchestra and other notable musical acts such as Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons, Demi Lovato and more.

This exciting opportunity is the latest in a growing list of memorable experiences for Chelsea Public Schools music students and educators at the local, state and national levels. Over the past year, CHS music students have performed at Walt Disney World, the Massachusetts State House and venues and events throughout the Chelsea community.

Additionally, this continues a strong relationship between the school district and the Boston Landmarks Orchestra. The orchestra has performed multiple free concerts over the past few years at CHS, including a Hispanic Heritage Month Concert. Both students and CPS staff have had the opportunity to participate in these concerts as well.
