The Chelsea Police Department is preparing to welcome residents and visitors to Fiesta Fútbol 2026, a free, family-friendly viewing celebration taking place in Chelsea Square from June 11 through July 19 for FIFA World Cup 2026.
Chelsea Police officers, event ambassadors, medical personnel, and other City staff will be stationed throughout the area to assist attendees, manage traffic, preserve emergency access, and help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
“Fiesta Fútbol is an opportunity to celebrate the game so many people in our community love while bringing families, neighbors, and visitors together,” said Police Chief Keith Houghton. “Our officers will be there to maintain a safe environment, engage with the community, and make sure everyone feels welcome. We ask attendees to follow posted traffic restrictions and immediately report anything suspicious or unsafe.”
TRAFFIC AND ROAD CLOSURES
Three traffic patterns may be used depending on attendance, event activity, and public-safety needs. Restrictions may include:
• 2nd Street closed between Broadway and Park Street
• Winnisimmet Street reduced to one lane or fully closed between Broadway and Park Street
• On high-attendance days, Broadway may be closed between Everett Avenue and Williams Street
• Pedestrian-only areas closed to parking and vehicle traffic
Drivers should review the accompanying maps, allow extra travel time, follow posted signs and police directions, and avoid Chelsea Square when possible. Public transportation is strongly encouraged.
EVENT SAFETY RULES
Alcohol, weapons, coolers, and smoking or vaping are prohibited inside the event area.
All bags are subject to search. Do not leave bags or personal property unattended. Anyone who observes suspicious behavior, an unattended item, or another safety concern should immediately notify a Chelsea Police officer or event staff member.
MEDICAL AND WEATHER ADVISORY
A medical tent will be available for anyone needing medical attention or support. Water bottle-filling stations and a water bubbler will be available, with a misting station provided as needed. Attendees should stay hydrated, monitor children and vulnerable guests, and notify event personnel immediately if anyone feels ill. The event is rain or shine; ponchos are encouraged during wet weather.
