The city council honored the five Chelsea Black History Month Trailblazers at Monday night’s meeting.

The Trailblazers were officially presented with the certificates at the Chelsea Black Community event last week. In addition to praising the five honorees, councilors also noted the commitment and hard work of the CBC over the years.

This year’s Trailblazers included Anthony Martins, state Senator Sal DiDomenico, former Council President Damali Vidot, Le Luz de Cristo Church Pastor Keila Velez, and Chelsea Recreation and Cultural Affairs Director Bea Cravatta.

Council President Roberto Jimenez-Rivera read from the certificates honoring each of the award winners.

Martins was praised for his decades of service as a DYS provider, firefighter, youth sports referee, volunteer, and constant presence at community events.

“You have empowered young people, strengthened our city, and helped to shape brighter futures,” said Jimenez-Rivera. “You are a beacon of light for those who aspire to make a difference, and your tireless efforts are deeply respected and appreciated.”

DiDomenico was honored for having an impact that goes far beyond title or policies.

“You lead with heart, humility, and the unwavering commitment to this community, making people feel seen, heard, and valued when it matters most,” said the council president. “Your willingness to stand with us, fight for us, and invest in every corner of Chelsea has helped us shape who we are today.”

Vidot was celebrated for the strength she brings to the community as a social, political, and holistic leader.

“You uplift Chelsea by being a powerful voice for those who cannot always speak for themselves and a steady guide for those on their journeys of self discovery and service, even when it meant standing alone for what is right and just,” said Jimenez-Rivera.

Velez was celebrated for her leadership and people-centered ministry.

“You uplift families, support neighbors, and create inclusive spaces where faith and community truly meet,” said Jimenez-Rivera. “Your presence and commitment continue to strengthen and bless our entire community.”

Cravatta was honored for being guided by a powerful goal to build a vibrant, inclusive, cultural, and recreational space in Chelsea where everyone feels welcomed and valued.

“You lead with intention, advocating for programs that meet people across languages and cultures to create meaningful connections,” said Jimenez-Rivera.

District 8 Councilor Calvin T. Brown noted all the CBC does in the community along with thanking the Trailblazers for their community service.

“I am grateful for the work and the service that you do in our community and I know each and every one of you,” said Brown.
