Edithe “Edie” (Lamb) Gallant

She valued her family above all else

Edithe “Edie” (Lamb) Gallant, 84, of Chelsea, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025, at the Katzman Center for Living, with her daughters by her side.

Edie was born on September 20, 1941, and raised in Chelsea. She married her husband of 47 years, Richard “Dick” Gallant and together they raised five children. She enjoyed being active in her church, staying involved in her children’s schools and spending time with friends playing bingo and bowling. She and Dick shared countless happy times with their close circle of friends at the Moose Club. Edie valued her family above all else and especially loved hosting holidays and Sunday dinners after church.

As the years went on, and life changed in ways that were deeply painful, Edie continued to find small joys. When she moved to the Cohen Florence Levine Estates in Chelsea, she became part of a wonderful and caring community. She loved sharing meals with her neighbors in the dining room, sitting in the café, and going on the lunch outings.

One truth remained constant throughout Edie’s life: people loved her. Nurses, aides, neighbors, and friends all connected with her. In her many hospital and rehab stays in recent years, staff grew to know her well, and she became a cherished and familiar presence wherever she was.

Mom was predeceased by our father, Richard, and our brothers, Richard and Michael — losses that broke her heart but never dimmed her faith. She leaves behind her children: Paul (Paula) of Wilmington, Linda Gatta of Reading and Jennifer (Jason) O’Connell of Wilmington; her grandchildren: Melissa, Michelle, Brendon, Aidan and Ella and her great-grandchildren: Joshua, Haley, and Gabrielle. She also leaves her brother, Thomas “Bob” Lamb and his wife, Maureen.

As we say goodbye, we find peace in knowing our mother is at rest and together again with her husband and sons.

We are forever thankful for the compassion and genuine kindness our mother received at both the Cohen Florence Levine Estates and the Katzman Center for Living.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours in the Carafa Family Funeral Home, 389 Washington Ave., Chelsea on Monday, December 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.followed by a Funeral Service in the Funeral Home at 1 p.m.  Interment is private and services will conclude at the Funeral Home.
