The Chelsea Public Schools bestowed multiple awards and recognitions at the November meeting of the Chelsea School Committee last week, highlighting student success and staff member appreciation.
The entire Chelsea High School boys soccer team was in attendance at City Hall to be recognized for winning the Greater Boston League (GBL). The team finished the season with a 13-4-2 record to win the GBL, the team’s first title since returning to the GBL. CHS went on to defeat Danvers High School in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament to reach the Round of 32.
Every player and coach received a certificate of recognition to honor this accomplishment.
Chelsea High School was also recognized for receiving the District 5 Sportsmanship Award from the MIAA.
The school district also bestowed its Name, Strength and Story awards for the month of November. The honorees included CHS teacher Jose Vejar Galvez as well as the entire Buildings and Grounds team who work at all schools in CPS as well as those in district-wide roles, most of whom attended the meeting.
“This is an amazing team that loves Chelsea Public Schools” commented Superintendent of Schools Dr. Almundena G. Abeyta. “I can’t thank you enough”.
Staff members who work at the Early Learning Center, Mary C. Burke Elementary Complex, Williams School, Morris H. Seigal Clark Avenue Middle School, Chelsea High School and district-wide staff were honored.
Seven staff members from the Early Learning Center including senior custodian Manny Ventura were recognized. Thirteen members from the elementary complex were honored included senior custodian Richie O’Brien and assistant senior custodian Jorge Sanabria. Seven members of the crew from the Williams School were honored including senior custodian Saul Tejada. Six staffers from the Clark were celebrated, including senior custodian Santos Pintos. Eleven staff members from CHS were honored including senior custodian Luis Diaz and assistant senior custodian Danny Doucette.
At the district level, Anibal Santiago was honored alongside four craftsman and maintenance crew members who serve the entire district. Joe Cooney, Frank Henry and Douglas Pena were also recognized.
The next regular meeting of the Chelsea School Committee is Thursday, Dec. 4, at Chelsea City Hall.
