Alice Nicewicz
November 2, 1926 – May 17, 2025
At the remarkable age of 98, Alice Nicewicz peacefully departed this life on Saturday, May 17th, at the Masconomet Healthcare Center in Topsfield, where she received compassionate care for the past four years.
Alice was born to the late Francis and Alice (Henry) Day in Chelsea where she spent the majority of her life and attended local schools.
Alice married Walter Nicewicz, and together they nurtured a loving family that included three sons and a daughter. Tragically widowed on January 21, 1986, she demonstrated unwavering strength and resilience throughout her life. A longtime resident of Chelsea, Alice cherished her years on Guam Road and later enjoyed her time at the Chelsea Village Apartments on Admirals Hill.
Professionally, Alice dedicated herself to serving others as a Home Health Aide for Intercity Home Care, a role from which she retired nearly thirty years ago. As an avid advocate for special needs children, she became a beacon of support for many families in her community and a tireless aid to her fellow residents at Chelsea Village. Her legacy of compassion and commitment to service remain an inspiration to all who knew her.
A passionate Boston sports fan, Alice found joy in every game and enjoyed sharing her enthusiasm with friends and family dancing and participating in couples bowling. Her spirit of generosity extended beyond her immediate family, as she was an active member and Trustee for the former Chelsea Women of the Moose, fostering connections among her peers.
Alice was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Jean F. Swankowski, as well as her siblings, Dorothy Hall, Ann Jacobson, Thomas Day, and Barbara Massa. She leaves behind her devoted sons, John Nicewicz and his wife, Tami, Richard Nicewicz, and Robert Nicewicz, along with her cherished grandchildren, Jason, and Christian “Lars” Nicewicz, Crystal, and Gerry Swankowski and adoring greatgrandchildren: Tessa, Trinity, Tailynn and Tina Joy.
In this time of mourning, let us gather to honor a woman who touched so many lives with her kindness, wisdom and love.
The family invites relatives and friends to honor and celebrate Alice’s memory with a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial, which will be held on Saturday, August 16th, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, located at 59 Nichols St., Chelsea. Family and friends are asked to arrive by 9:45 a.m. Following the Mass, the services will conclude with inurnment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
