Boys Track Cruises to 85-24 Victory
The Chelsea High boys outdoor track and field team remained undefeated with an 85-24 victory over Malden last Wednesday.
The top scorer for the Red Devils was Emmanuel Simon, who won the triple jump and took second in the long jump and 200 meter dash to score 11 points on the day.
Double-winners in their respective events were Hector Rivera, who took first place in both the 110 and 400 hurdles, and Richard Flores, who captured both the shot-put and discus.
Also claiming first-place in their individual events were Alejandro Zepeda in the mile, Ali Warsame in the 400 dash, Oscar Amaya in the 800, and Jamison Guillaume in the javelin. Jamison also took second place in the shot-put and a third in the 200 dash to add nine points onto the Chelsea side of the scoresheet.
Johnny Maldonado scored three points with a second-place finish in the two mile, as did Carlos Jimenez in the javelin, Jimmy Merino in the 800, Quan Vu in the 110 hurdles, and Ricardo Pavanelli in the 400 dash.
Adding single points to the CHS cause with third-place efforts were Jeffrey Ponce in both the shot-put and discus, Ali Warsame in the long-jump, Jose Olivar in the two-mile, and Luis Roman in the 400 dash.
The Red Devils quartet of Carlos Jimenez, Oscar Amaya, Alejandro Zepeda, and Ali Warsame won the 4 x 400 relay.
Strong Performances from CHS Girls Track
Although the Chelsea High girls track team came up on the short end of a 53-32 decision to Malden in their dual meet last week, a number of the Lady Red Devils turned in fine performances.
Gloria Rodriguez was the top scorer for the Red & Black. Gloria won the long jump, took second in the 100 and 200 dashes, and a third in the javelin for a total of 12 points on the day.
Dhalia Christmas won the discus and took second in the shot for eight points. Jasmine Mardiaga was the other individual winner for Chelsea in the 800.
Darily Sanchez took second in the 400 dash, as did Alejandra Romero in the discus. Lauren Nadow added a third-place point in the 200 dash.
