The Chelsea community lost one of our good ones with the sudden passing of Maurice “Rick” Cromwell Jr. on New Year’s Eve.
Rick was a lifelong Chelsea resident who enjoyed a long and successful career in the food and hospitality industry.
Beyond his professional accomplishments however, Rick was a cherished member of the large and extended Cromwell family that has been an integral part of the fabric of our community for decades.
When we recall Ricky as a young man playing in the Chelsea Summer Basketball League on the steamy asphalt courts at the old Merritt and Highland Parks, being cheered on by his late mom, Madeline, and his lovely sisters and other family members, it makes us realize how quickly time flies — and that family bonds last forever.
Although Rick had suffered from health issues in his later years, he always remained the affable and dapper man whose presence in any situation was a joy.
We know we join with all of our fellow Chelsea residents in extending our condolences to his children, Maurice III and Lauricia, his wonderful sisters and brothers, and his many other family members. He will be missed by all of us who knew and loved him.
May he rest in peace.
