Chelsea High track star Stephanie Simon competed at the New England Championships in the long jump last weekend and came home with a third-place medal. Stephanie jumped a personal record (PR) of 18′-4.5″ on her final attempt that took her from sixth place to third, finishing as the highest-placing Massachusetts athlete in the girls’ long jump event, only behind competitors from Connecticut and Maine. Stephanie is set compete in both the long jump and the triple jump in the Emerging Elite category at the New Balance Indoor Nationals at the Armory in New York City tomorrow (Friday).
