CHS boys and girls track teams remain undefeated

Both the Chelsea High boys and girls indoor track and field teams earned impressive victories last Wednesday over Lynn Tech.

On the boys’ side, the Red Devils handily prevailed by a score of 56-26 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The CHS team was paced by Jose Leclerc, who won the 1000 with a time of 3:02.  Alex Pedrero was a double-winner in both the hurdles and high jump.  Other winners included Ronny Lopez’s first ever win in the 600, Demetrius Martinez in the two-mile, Justin Turner in the mile, and Tony Bui in the shot put.

“The meet was close until the 600 meter dash,” said CHS head coach Mark Martineau. “After that point the distance crew, which is the strength of our team, took control.”

This past Sunday the Red Devils competed at the MSTCA Winter Festival held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.  Jose Leclerc ran a personal best time of 4:45.03 in the mile to finish eighth in a field of 125 athletes.

“It was a great showing early in the season for Jose,” said Martineau.

The CHS girls’ squad improved to 3-0 with wins over Notre Dame of Tyngsboro (65-18) and Lynn Tech (69-6).

Strong performances were turned in by Stephanie Simon, who won both the hurdles and high jump, and Martine Simon, who won the dash and finished second in the high jump.

Other winners included Amanda Dias in the mile, Awa Bajinka in the 300, Jocelyn Poste in the 600, Yarid Deras in the two mile, and Masireh Ceesay in the shot put.

Both teams are now off until after the holiday break.
