Nina DeFlumeri
Her greatest and most cherished interests were church and family
Nina (Cataldo) DeFlumeri passed away on December 5 in the peaceful surroundings of her Malden home after a short illness with her husband and family at her side. She was 87 years old.
Born and raised in Monte Falcione, Italy, she was one of seven children born to the late Angelo and Margaret (Sordillo) Cataldo. She garnered her formal education in Italy and was married to Reginald “Reggie” DeFlumeri in the fall of 1951. Together with family they immigrated to the United States as newlyweds and first settled in Chelsea and Everett for several years. They made their home in Malden for the past 40 years.
Nina remained at home raising two sons and caring for her household. A deeply religious and faithful Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church in Everett and most recently at the Immaculate Conception Church in Everett when St. Joseph’s closed several years ago. She was also strongly dedicated to the St. Anthony Shrine, Arch St. Chapel, in Boston and performed many acts of volunteer work at all of those churches. Throughout her life, Church and Family were her greatest and most cherished interests.
Nina is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, “Reggie” DeFlumeri (Owner/Proprietor of “Reggie’s Service Station” in Chelsea). She was the devoted mother of Joseph DeFlumeri and his wife, Donna of Lunenburg, VT and Anthony DeFlumeri and his wife, Debra of Peabody; cherished grandmother of Alexandra Chapman and her husband, Jonathan, Joseph DeFlumeri, Jr., Anastasia DeFlumeri, Paul DeFlumeri and Daniel DeFlumeri; dear sister of Louis Cataldo of Monte Falcione, Italy, Joseph Cataldo of England, Rose Cataldo of Monte Falcione, Italy, Michael Cataldo of Wakefield and the late Nicholas and Marie Cataldo.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was said on Tuesday in the Immaculate Conception Church, Everett, Rev. Gerald Osterman officiated. Services concluded with entombment at Holy Cross Community Mausoleum, Malden.
