Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary Bourque made a very important announcement this week, selecting Priti Johari as the ad interim principal at Chelsea High School for the 2014-15 school year.
Ms. Johari will succeed Joseph Mullaney, who announced in February that he will stepping down from his position.
Mr. Mullaney has been an excellent administrator and proven leader at Chelsea High. The students have been given a safe and enriching environment in which to maximize their educational pursuits under the tutelage of a hard-working and dedicated group of teachers. Chelsea students compete well and earn admission to some of the finest universities in the country.
Those of us who go back to Mr. Mullaney’s days as an outstanding Chelsea High and North Adams State (Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts) basketball player know about his high level of competitiveness and admire how diligently he worked to provide a productive academic experience for every student, from freshman year until commencement day.
Dr. Bourque thus had a key decision to make about whom would carry on the fine leadership that Mr. Mullaney has exhibited from the principal’s office and who would keep the school moving forward and continuing to make a difference in each student’s life.
And that person is Priti Johari, who we understand has an impeccable academic background and has excelled in her role as the Chelsea High School redesign administrator for the past three years.
We welcome Priti Johari to the high school’s top administrative position and wish her the best of luck as she and Mr. Mullaney begins the transition of leadership at the school.
