Although the season came to an abrupt end for the Chelsea High volleyball team with a first round loss Saturday in the MIAA Division 1 Central/East Sectional Tournament to Newton South, the fourth seed in the bracket with a 14-5 record, CHS head coach Lisa Ceccherini said the defeat did not diminish what was an otherwise fine season for her Lady Red Devils.
“The girls had a great year,” said Ceccherini. “They gave it their all, even in the tourney game. They never gave up and it was a great experience for them from which we learned a lot.”
The Lady Red Devils shared the championship of the Commonwealth Athletic Conference Small School Division with Fellowship of Christian Academy which will result in a championship banner being hoisted in the CHS gym, the first for a CHS volleyball team in more than 20 years.
“I’m very proud of what this team accomplished,” added Ceccherini. “We’re certainly going to miss our captain, Erin Kelley, who was the league MVP. But we have a strong nucleus of players coming back and we’ll be looking forward to next season.”
