After dropping a 5-0 decision to undefeated Shawsheen Tech last Thursday, the Chelsea High girls soccer team rebounded for a solid 2-1 triumph over Lynn Tech Monday.
“We played a fantastic first half against Tech, which really showed how much we’ve improved over the course of the season,” said CHS head coach Jennifer Gulko, “The team was passing and communicating and we had tons of shots. The offense had more shots on net than any previous game which is an indication of their improved skills.”
The two Chelsea goals were scored by junior Zuleima Castillo and sophomore Quinnee Valenzona with an assist from junior Loren Ramos.
. Gulko also was pleased with her team’s effort in the encounter with Shawsheen. The Lady Red Devils battled Shawsheen to a near standoff through the first half, trailing by a tight 1-0 margin. “We played tough defense, especially in the first half,” noted Gulko.
The coach lauded the efforts of freshman Francis Teruel, who played a strong game at left forward (after switching from the midfield from previous games), while Zuleima Castillo and Elsa Nu§ez led the defensive efforts. Keeper Gabby Salazar played a tough game in net for Chelsea.
The Lady Red Devils were to play the last game of the regular season yesterday (Wednesday) against Mystic Valley, which is a make up of an earlier rainout.
