Two tough losses for girls soccer team

The Chelsea High girls soccer team dropped a pair of close and hard fought contests this past week, a 1-0 loss to Minuteman last Thursday and a 2-0 defeat to Mystic Valley Tuesday.

“We had tied Minuteman twice previously this season and we were really hoping to pull off a win,” said CHS head coach Jennifer Gulko.

The teams were evenly matched throughout the game, as they had been in the two previous games, and the only goal was scored when Minuteman received a free kick close to Chelsea’s goal after a Lady Red Devil midfielder was called for pushing.

“We had some great shots on Minuteman’s goal, but we couldn’t get the ball past the keeper,” said Gulko. “Our defense played another great game and Gabby Salazar played well in the net.”

Tuesday’s contest saw Mystic Valley score both goals in the first half. “Zuleima Castillo played an excellent game both at defense and offense and had some great shots on net that unfortunately could not get past Mystic’s goalkeeper,” said Gulko. “Loren Ramos played a strong game at midfield and stopper and freshman Eliza Erazo played a great game at midfield.

“We played a great second half with good passing and communication, but unfortunately

could not score,” added Gulko. “The teams are evenly matched and we’ll be looking to beat them when we play them again next week.”

Gulko and her Lady Red Devils face Shawsheen tomorrow (Thursday), Lynn Tech on Monday, and Mystic Valley for a make up (rain date) game later next week.
