Simon leads CHS girls to two victories

The Chelsea High girls outdoor track and field team defeated Greater Boston League rivals Lynn Classical (73-41) and Malden (67-50) in a tri-meet last Tuesday at Chelsea Stadium.

Junior standout Thania Simon once again paced the Lady Red Devils to the double victories. Thania captured first place in three events vs. both opponents: the 200 dash with a sprint of 27.3;  the long jump with a leap of 17’-2”; and the triple jump with a final landing of 36’-5”. Thania  also took second in the 100 dash vs. Classical and third vs. Malden to score a total of 34 points on the day.

Chelsea also dominated two of the three throwing events. Dieunie Cademus led a Chelsea sweep in the shot-put with a throw of 25’-10”, with teammates Aria Green and Harmony Rogers taking 2nd and 3rd.

In the discus, Green took first with a toss of 60’-0” to pace another Chelsea sweep with teammates Cademus and Jennifer Ramirez Mejia.

Additional point-scorers for Chelsea included:

— Aly Perez, who topped the field in the 2-mile with a time of 15:06.1;

— Hazel Hatleberg, who finished first vs. Classical and second vs. Malden in the javelin and second vs. both opponents in the 1-mile, the 2-mile, and the triple jump for a total of 26 points on the day;

— Lawa Drammeh, who finished in second place vs. both opponents in the 200 dash and third vs. Malden in the long jump;

— Lilly Serrano, who took first place in the 400 dash and the high jump vs. both opponents; first vs. Classical and second vs. Malden in the 100 dash; and second vs. Classical in the javelin;

— Rocio Perez Mauricio, who finished third vs. Malden in the 400 dash;

— Kimberly Fuentes Chavez, who finished first vs. Malden and second vs. Classical in the 800 and third vs. Classical in the javelin; and

— Aly Perez, who finished third vs. both opponents in the 1-mile.

Boys track posts two wins

The Chelsea High boys outdoor track and field team defeated Greater Boston League rivals Lynn Classical (82-45) and Malden (80-40) in a tri-meet last Tuesday at Chelsea Stadium.

Pacing the Red Devils to the victories were:

— David Ponce, who defeated the field in the 200 dash with a sprint of 23.8;

— Xavier Guzman, who took first-place vs. both opponents in the 400 dash with a clocking of 54.5;

— Bryan Amaya-Yanes, who cruised to a victory in the 800 in 2:15.9, which was 16 seconds faster than his closest rival;

— Carlos Perez Acosta, who outran the field in the 1-mile with a clocking of 5:12.3, which was 14 seconds faster than his closest opponent; 

— Leeandro Castro, who won both the 110 hurdles in a time of 17.7 and the 400 hurdles in a clocking of 63.9;

— Kevin Romero-Molina, who was the king of the discus with a spin of 128’-4” and also took first vs. Malden and third vs. Classical in the shot-put;

—  Igor Oliviera, who handily won the javelin with a throw of 100’-3”; and

— Gregory Ulloa, who turned in a versatile performance with a first place in the triple jump vs. both opponents with a final landing of 35’-4”; a first vs. Malden and a second vs. Classical in the long jump; and a third in the 100 dash vs. Classical;

Additional point-scorers for the Red Devils were:

— Joe Tineo with a second vs. Classical and a third vs. Malden in the 200 dash;

— Aiden Rivas-Ortega with a third vs. Classical in the 200 dash and a third vs. Malden in the long jump;

— Zakaria Moubtassim with a second vs. Classical and a third vs. Malden in the 400 dash and a second vs. Classical and a third vs. Malden in the javelin;

— Alhagi Drammeh with a second vs. Classical and a third vs. Malden in the 800;

— Jeffriso Mercado with a first vs. Malden and a second vs. Classical in the 2-mile;

— Philip Robles with second vs. both opponents in the discus and third vs. Malden in the shot-put;

— Nathan Pleitez took second vs. Malden in the shot; and

— Christian Gutierrez with a third vs. Classical in the javelin;
