Simon scores 18 points for girls track

The Chelsea High girls outdoor track and field team dropped its first meet of the season to first-place Revere last week, 75-59. A number of Lady Red Devils turned in superb performances.

Junior track star Thania Simon tallied 18 points for the Lady Red Devils. Thania won the 200 dash with a sprint of 26.4 seconds, the triple jump with a final landing of 35′-7″, and the long jump with a leap of  16′-5.5″. She also scored three points for her second-place finish in the 100 dash with a time of 12.5.

Hazel Hatleberg won the javelin with a throw of 67′-6″ and took second in the 1-mile with a clocking of 6:38.1, which was just 0.1 of a second behind the winning Revere girl.

Aria Green won the discus with a toss of 65′-3″.

Lilly Serrano scored 16 points with victories in the 100 meter dash in 12.1, the 400 dash in 59.9, the high jump with a leap of 4′-10″, and a third in the javelin.

Also scoring points for Chelsea were:

— Kimberly Fuentes Chavez with three points for her second place finish in the 800 meters;

— Aly Perez took second in the 2-mile in 15:03.5; and

— Dieunie Cademus took second places in the shot-put with a throw of 24′-2″ and in the discus with a toss of 64′-5″.

CHS boys track falls to Revere

Although the Chelsea High boys outdoor track team came up on the short end of an 85-43 decision to Revere last week, a number of Red Devils turned in fine performances.

Xavier Guzman topped the field in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.5.

Leeandro Castro won the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:03.7 and finished second in the 110 hurdles.

Kevin Romero-Molina won the discus with a toss of 122′-9″ and grabbed third place in the shot-put.

Gregory Ulloa won the long jump with a leap of 18′-2.5″. Greg also grabbed a second in the triple jump and third in the 100 dash.

Additional point-scorers for Chelsea were:

— David Ponce with a third in the 200 dash;

— Bryan Amaya-Yanes with a second in the 800;

— Carlos Perez-Acosta with a third in the 1-mile;

— Philip Robles with a second place in the discus;

— Aiden Rivas-Ortega with a third in the long jump and in the triple jump.
