Serrano, Simon pace girls track to two victories

The Chelsea High girls outdoor track and field team posted a pair of victories in a season opening tri-meet with Greater Boston League (GBL) rivals Everett (56-47) and Medford (62-53) last Tuesday at Chelsea Stadium.

Leading the way for the Lady Red Devils were the duo of juniors Lilly Serrano and Thania Simon. Lilly won three events — the 100 dash (12.4), the 400 dash (61.8), and the high jump (4′-6″) — against both opponents, and added a second place vs. Medford in the javelin to score 33 points on the day.

Thania scored 31 points with victories in the long jump (17′-3″) and triple jump (33′-8″) vs. both Everett and Medford; a first vs. Everett and a second vs. Medford in the 200 dash (26.4); and a second place vs. Everett in the 100 (13.5) dash.

Additional point-scorers in the wins for the Lady Red Devils were:

— Kimberly Fuentes Chavez grabbed first place vs. Everett and second vs. Medford in the 800 with a time of 2:48.4;

— Hazel Hatleberg took first place vs. both opponents in the javelin with a throw of 64′-9″. Hazel also took second place vs. both foes in the 1-mile with a clocking of 6:47.1;

— Aly Perez finished first vs. Everett and second vs. Medford in the 2-mile run in 14:39.9;

— Dieunie Cademus grabbed first vs. Medford and second vs. Everett in the shot-put with a toss of 24′-4.75″ and first vs. Medford and third vs. Everett in the discus with a spin of 54′-11″;

— Aria Green finished second vs. Medford and third vs. Everett in the shot with her throw of 23′-8.75″ and added a second vs. Medford in the discus (54′-2″);

— Harmony Rogers added a third-place point vs. Medford in the shot with a toss of 19′-9″.

The Lady Red Devils were scheduled to meet Revere at Harry Della Russo Stadium this past Monday.

CHS boys track defeats GBL foes Medford, Everett

The Chelsea High boys outdoor track and field team posted a pair of victories in a season opening tri-meet with Greater Boston League (GBL) rivals Everett (66-59) and Medford (91-42) last Tuesday at Chelsea Stadium.

Gregory Ulloa was the top performer for the Red Devils with a total of 26 points on the day. Greg defeated all opponents in both the long jump (with a leap of 18′-1″) and the triple jump (with a final landing of 32′-1″) and took first place vs. Medford and third vs. Everett in the 200 dash with a time of 25.0.

Leeandro Castro was a double-winner vs. both opponents in both the 110 hurdles with a time of 19.8 and the 400 hurdles with a clocking of 63.5.

Kevin Romero-Molina also was a double-winner, topping the field in the discus with a toss of 122′-7″ and the shot-put with a throw of 37′-5″.

In the discus event, Kevin’s closest competitors were teammates Philip Robles (99′-11″) and Nathan Pleitez (89′-8″), giving Chelsea a clean sweep vs. both Everett and Medford.

Xavier Guzman topped the field in the 400 dash with a clocking of 54.9, a time that was six seconds faster than any of his Everett and Medford rivals.

Teammate Zakaria Moubtassim was Xavier’s closest competitor in the 400, taking second place vs. both foes with a time of 58.3. Zakaria also took second place vs. Medford in the javelin.

David Ponce grabbed first vs. Medford and third vs. Everett in the 100 dash with a sprint of 12.2.

Bryan Amaya-Yanes finished first vs. Medford and second vs. Everett in the 800 in 2:18.3. Carlos Perez-Acosta did likewise in the 1-mile with a time of 5:16.4.

Igor Oliviera took first vs. Medford in the javelin with a toss of 79′-3″.

The Red Devils won both the 4 x 100 relay with a time of 50.3 and the 4 x 400 relay (4:23.8).

Additional point-scorers for Chelsea were:

— Philip Robles took second vs. Medford and third vs. Everett in the shot-put with a toss of 35′-5.5″;

— Nathan Pleitez added a third-place point vs. Medford in the shot with a throw of 33′-3″;

— Daniel Raida Beltran scored a point with a third-place effort in the javelin; and

— Aiden Rivas Ortega took second place vs. Everett and third vs. Medford in the long jump and second place vs. Medford in the long jump.

— Joe Tineo added a point vs. Medford with a third in the 100 dash in 13.0;

— Steven Artica added a point vs. Medford with a third place in the 400 (61.2);

The Red Devils were scheduled to meet Revere at Harry Della Russo Stadium this past Monday.

Nice start for CHS softball

The Chelsea High softball team is off to its best start in many years. The Lady Red Devils earned victories of 17-8 over Excel Academy, 8-3 over Somerville, and 20-13 over Lynn English before coming up short in a 4-1 loss to a 3-1 Revere team this past Monday.

Coach Titus Manderson’s 2026 squad is led by a trio of captains, senior shortstop Monica Cespedes, senior second baseman Jailene Artica, and junior pitcher Juju Hassell.

They were scheduled to meet Everett yesterday (Wednesday) and will host Lynn Classical on the holiday on Monday morning and Northeast Regional next Friday morning. The opening pitch for both of the vacation week contests is set for 10:00 at Carter Park.
