CHS boys volleyball ready to open season
The Chelsea High boys volleyball team opened its season this week with a busy slate of contests. The Red Devils traveled to Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Somerville this past Monday, hosted non-league opponent Georgetown yesterday (Wednesday), and will trek to non-league foe Salem Academy Charter tomorrow (Friday).
“This is my third season coaching boys volleyball, and my second season coaching boys varsity,” said Martin. “My first year coaching the boys was with most of these same players, and they were on our junior varsity team.
“Since then, they’ve shown nothing but high-level progress in stamina, accountability, focus, effort, and respect for themselves, each other, and this sport, not to mention all the post-practice shenanigans they put me through,” Martin added. “I’m excited to see the results of all the hard work these boys have put in throughout their entire high school volleyball careers and I can’t wait to enjoy the season with them.”
The Red Devils will be led by captain Kyson Gray Jose and co-captains Ismail Alagic and Joshua Alvarado. The other members of the team include Justin Aguilar Arteaga, Kevin Diaz-Nunez. Farouk El Mahil, Jonathan Espana Lopez, Jaden Maldonado, Omar Martinez, Brandon Moreno, Mauricio Sanchez-Umanzor, Vladimir Hernandez Machado, Xander Jose, and Emanuel Prudencio.
Martin and his crew will meet their seven GBL adversaries (Somerville, Malden, Medford, Everett, Revere, Lynn English, and Lynn Classical) twice each and six non-league opponents, Georgetown, Salem Academy, KIPP, Excel, Lynn Tech, and Pioneer Charter, to round out their 20-game schedule.
After this week’s slate of matches, the Red Devils will host Malden next Monday and Revere next Wednesday.
