CHS winter sports set to get underway

The winter sports season has arrived for Chelsea High athletes, who are scheduled to get their 2025-26 seasons underway in the coming week.

The CHS boys and girls indoor track teams get started tomorrow (Friday) with a tri-meet vs. Greater Boston League (GBL) rivals Somerville and Medford at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Roxbury.

The Red Devils will face all seven of their GBL foes (Lynn English, Lynn Classical, Revere, Chelsea, Medford, Malden, and Somerville) once each with all of the meets (which for the most part will be tri-meets with two GBL rivals) to be held at the Reggie. The GBL season will culminate with the league meet on February 5.

In addition, the Chelsea tracksters will compete in the usual invitationals and state meets throughout the season.

The CHS girls basketball team, under the direction of new head coach Bruce Harrison, will bounce into action on Monday with a match vs. non-league opponent Excel Academy at the CHS gym. The opening tip-off is set for :00.

The members of the 2025-26 edition of the CHS varsity are Karla Anzora Anaya, Lidya Castillo Rodriguez, Monica Cespedes-Cruz, Jomari Guerrero, Fatuma Iman, Zeinab Iman, Jaliyah Santiago Lozada, Melize Siliro, Taylor Eliara Solano Recio, Yarisbel Torres, and Thiah Young. Three girls, Zoany (Angie) Antunez, Luciana Martinez Rosero, and Rahama Sidow, will be counted upon for added depth as JV/Varsity players.

After Monday’s opener, the Lady Red Devils, who turned in a 43-28 victory vs. Mystic Valley in a scrimmage this past Monday, will travel to GBL foes Somerville next Tuesday and Everett next Thursday.

Coach Cesar Castro and the CHS boys hoop squad will host Somerville in their season-opener next Tuesday and then will entertain Everett next Thursday.  Both contests will tip off at 6:00 in the CHS gym.

Both the boys and girls squads will meet their seven GBL foes (Lynn English, Lynn Classical, Revere, Chelsea, Medford, Malden, and Somerville) twice each.

The boys will complete their 20-game schedule vs. non-league opponents Boston English, East Boston, Tech Boston, Cambridge Rindge and Latin, Northeast Regional, and Brighton.

The Lady Red Devils will take on non-league foes Excel, Ipswich (2), Northeast (2), and Boston Latin Academy to round out their 20-game schedule.
