Gladys Yukins

A remarkable woman who lived with compassion and devotion, leaving an indelible mark of love in the lives she touched

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Gladys Yutkins, a cherished member of the Chelsea community. She left us at the age of 81 on Sunday, June 29th, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness.

Gladys was born and raised in Chelsea and was the devoted daughter of the late Sophie (Wozniak) Pistone. She carried her mother’s memory in her heart and provided love and care for her throughout her life. A proud graduate of Chelsea High School, Gladys dedicated her life to her family and community, demonstrating unwavering support and kindness.

For 60 beautiful years, Gladys enjoyed a loving marriage with her husband, Frederick J. Yutkins. Together, they created a nurturing home for their two sons, Joseph and Frederick, filling it with warmth and laughter. As “Nana,” Gladys found profound joy in spending time with her grandson, Joseph Yutkins Jr. Her home was a sanctuary for him, especially during sleepovers that were filled with love and cherished moments.

Her commitment to her community was evident in her role as a parish secretary at St. Stanislaus Church. Many remember her for her culinary skills—her meals, always prepared with care, brought clergy together during special events and were enjoyed greatly by all who attended.

Gladys also treasured her time spent at casinos, she loved shopping, dining with family, and hosting delightful gatherings, where her famous baked stuffed shrimp and broccoli casserole created lasting memories. She ensured that every family gathering was a celebration filled with plenty of food and love.

Sadly, she was predeceased by her son Frederick, her sister Marie Casaletto and her brother Paul Pistone.

In this time of reflection, we remember Gladys’s loving spirit and the legacy she leaves behind. She is survived by her devoted husband, Frederick J. Yutkins, her son Joseph Yutkins and his wife Claudette, her beloved grandson Joseph Yutkins Jr., her sister Carol Barone, and a host of cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services for Gladys were held on Tuesday, July 8th at the Welsh Funeral Home, 718 Broadway, Chelsea and she was laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
