Simon wins triple-jump at InVacational Meet; Serrano second in 400

Chelsea High sophomore track and field star Thania Simon turned in an impressive performance at this past Friday’s MSTCA InVacational Meet that was held at No. Andover.

Thania brought home the first-place medal in the triple jump with a final landing of 35’-3.75” and earned a third-place medal in the 200 dash with a sprint of 26.79 (which was just 0.52 off the first place time) and a fourth-place medal in the 100 meter dash with a sprint of 13.14 seconds (which was just 0.25 off the winning time).

Fellow sophomore sensation Lilly Serano also delivered an exceptional performance at the meet. Lilly took second place in the 400 dash with a clocking of 1:00.85 that was a mere 0.06 off the winning time and grabbed a seventh-place medal in the 100 dash in a time of 13,44.

Senior Kiara Ramirez-Villata brought home a seventh-place medal in the shot-put with a throw of 30’-9.75”. Kiara also just missed making the medal podium in the discus, with her toss of 86’-7” leaving her just short in ninth place.

A number of Lady Red Devils turned in fine performances the meet:

— Hazel Hatleberg finished 21st in the javelin with a toss of 55’-1” and 31st in the 800 with a time of 2:52.82.

— Kimberly Fuentes Chavez finished 37th in the 800 in 2:59.02.

— Lauren Nadow finished 16th in the javelin with a throw of 62’-5” and 31st in the 100 hurdles in 20.48.

— Anjely Mejia-Martinez finished 24th in the shot-put with a toss of 23’-11”.

— Dieunie Cademus was right behind in 25th spot with her throw of 23’-10.25”.

On the boys’ side, the quartet of Sherwin Kim, Bryan Amaya-Ynes, Leeandro Castro, and Xavy Guzman earned a fourth-place medal in the 4 x 400 with a time of 3:43.27.

The top Red Devil individual performer was senior Ariel Chaon-Arena, who won two medals with a fifth place in the discus with a toss of 133’-11” and a seventh place in the shot-put with a throw of 46’-7”.

Additional top performers for Chelsea included:

— Sherwin Kim with a 12th place finish in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:02.92;

— Xavy Guzman, who finished 13th in the 400 dash with a clocking of 54.86;

— Kevin Romero-Molina with a 17th place shot-put throw of 40’-0.50” and a 21st discus toss of 108’-7”;

— Leeandro Castro with an 18th place effort in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.27;

— Younes Sharif with a 22nd place in the 400 hurdles in 1:12.81;

— Bryan Amaya-Yanes with a 26th place effort in the 800 in 2:15.93;

— Adonis Alvarez-Umana, who finished 20th in the javelin with a throw of 116’-00” and 29th in both the shot with a toss of 38’-3.5” and the discus with a spin of 102’-5”;
