Rivera strikes out nine for CHS baseball in route-going performance

Despite a gutsy, complete-game performance from Elijah Rivera on the mound, the Chelsea High School baseball team came up short in a tough 7–2 loss to non-league opponent East Boston on Friday in their season-opener

Rivera was dominant at times, striking out nine East Boston hitters and keeping the Jets in check for much of the game. But defensive struggles proved costly for Chelsea, as the Red Devils committed five errors, several of which led directly to Eastie runs.

“We just didn’t help out our pitcher today,” said Chelsea head coach Michael Lush afterwards. “Elijah gave us everything he had, but we’ve got to clean it up behind him.”

The Red Devils struggled to get much going offensively, managing just a pair of runs late in the game. East Boston took advantage of Chelsea’s miscues and steadily built their lead throughout the middle innings.

Although the loss drops Chelsea to 0-1, “There were still positives to take away, most notably Rivera’s resilience on the mound,” said Lush.

Lush and his crew will make the short trek to Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Revere this Monday and will host GBL foe Medford next Wednesday at Carter Park at 4:00.

CHS softball improves to 2-0

The Chelsea High softball team improved to 2-0 with a 13-1 victory at Tech Boston last Friday.

Coach Titus Manderson and his crew, who were rained out of their contest with Everett this past Monday, will host Revere next Monday afternoon at Carter Park and will travel to Medford next Wednesday.
