We were so pleased to have been invited to the recent holiday celebration of the Chelsea Knights of Columbus and to have come across many of our old friends who continue to make the Knights a vibrant part of the Chelsea community.
Although many of our local organizations have been struggling in recent years to retain membership, the Knights remain an integral part of our city thanks to the efforts of long-time members such as Bill Mahoney, who has been the Knights’ treasurer for 45 years, and David Morency, who has been the Grand Knight for 25 years. Both Bill and Dave were honored with awards for their many years of dedicated service at the holiday party.
It was great to run into old friends such as Brian Sullivan, Myles Johnson, and Jay Ferri (who organized the party), and others such as Richard Szarythe and his lovely wife, the former Jane Zaremba.
The Knights do some very good charitable work in the city. Most recently, they helped out the Our Lady of Grace Church with a big donation for a new retaining wall behind the church.
With many Chelsea institutions having fallen by the wayside, we are happy to report that the Knights continue to make their mark in our city.
